Countdown to Stella

Naturally we put off installing the electric fence til the last weekend before we pick up Stella. And naturally two more big rain/windstorms are in the forecast. Oh well...what's a little weather when you're having fun!

The million roosters in the meat bird pen are learning to crow. It's hilarious to hear them all practicing at the same time, but I hope they don't get any louder in the 2 months til it's time to take them to the butcher's.

Little Berry & his mom are getting a nice coat of fleece in. In a few months we'll send a sample of Berry's fleece into the Pygora registry to see if he gets fully registered. They decide based on fiber quality, and so far, his looks lovely!

Happy Friday!!!

Keep this up you'll have me knitting again.

Are you making peace with 'goat energy' yet?

The news that Stella comes home soon makes me want to bounce up and down on a springy chair with a big sign saying 'mooo!', shouting "Stel-la Stel-la Stel-la!"

She's *such* a pretty cow. I'm glad she made it through her health problems.

Watch those electric fences. I swear they scoot over an inch or two when you aren't looking, just so they can say "gotcha!"

I'll just be happy if we can get her off the trailer and into the barnyard without incident. She may be young, but she has horns! Hopefully some strong lead ropes and cow treats will work. I'm sure the neighbors will enjoy the show.

I guess the goaties are going to stay. The old red hens would be lost without Berry to torment them!

I just got a book about raising chickens and found that they work great with goats and cattle (picking out the manure from them, hmmm, sounds appetizing...) I really would enjoy a new picture of Berry with the growing hairdo. Good luck on getting Stella in.

That's what we're hoping to do here with our paddock system. Let Stella eat the good grass, and let the chickies & goats follow up. It's supposed to make the pasture grow better, keep parasites down, and make the critters healthier. Besides, it's just fun to see a flock of chickens out grazing!
